Shaw secures £800,000 investment to develop water testing
Shaw Technologies have secured £800,000 of funding from Par Syndicate – the angel investor arm of Edinburgh-based Par Equity – and Scottish Enterprise's Scottish Co-investment Fund in a move that will create a further 14 jobs.
The investment, which is to be made in stages over the next 12 months, will allow Shaw to further develop our "CRYPTO-TECT" technology, which allows testing of water supplies for contamination of cryptosporidium.
Cryptosporidium is a parasite that causes cryptosporidiosis – a potentially fatal disease that is particularly serious in people with weak or undeveloped immune systems, the old and the very young.
It is most often spread in contaminated drinking water and has caused a number of outbreaks in both the UK and US in recent years.
David Grahame, Executive Director of Linc, Scotland's business angel capital investment association, said: "Despite the current economic challenges, business angel groups like the Par Syndicate are showing that there are funds available to help companies develop innovative technology to fuel growth. This is another excellent example of an angel syndicate helping a Scottish company develop its full global potential."
